Strengths
As I reflect on personal strengths that will positively impact my readiness to change, I
have excellent communication skills. I exhibit the skills to communicate effectively with any
individual within the organization. “Exhibiting effective communication has a positive impact on
employees’ attitudes and their overall acceptance of the proposed changes to come.”
(SYAFWAN & FATHIA, 2023)
An additional personal strength is adaptability. Being adaptable consists of having open
mindedness when it comes to switches in routines, daily operations, and overall change within an
organization. “Studies show that adaptability was found to conciliate the effect of trust and
clarity of objectives on individuals change readiness.” (Yean et al., 2022)
Weaknesses
When identifying personal weaknesses, perfectionism greatly impacts readiness for
change. I tend to prioritize the small details of projects which slows down completion time of
deadlines. In a fast and often uncertain environment of organizational change, this weakness
could pose a serious issue.
An additional weakness I have is that I heavily contemplate the risks that come with
change. For example, I understand that change should happen but often struggle with how shortterm costs will be outweighed by the longer-term benefits of a change.
Opportunities
There are endless options to choose from to improve personal strengths. However, with
my personal weaknesses stated above, attending workshops and hiring a mentor or coach will
directly align with readiness of change. Attending workshops is an excellent opportunity for me
3
to improve my leadership skills, such as strategic thinking, decision making and team building.
“Workshops additionally improve the efficiency of business and productivity” (“Better Training
and Better Jobs,” 2018) which directly aligns with overcoming my personal perfectionism.
“Mentors help develop the career prospects of their mentees and access training
resources they need to be ready for future tasks.” (Goodman, 2020) Gaining mentorship will help
improve personal contemplation of change within the organization.
Threats
Objections from employees may often be encountered with organizational changes.
Consequently, “at least 70% of change initiatives have failed due to employee resistance and a
lack of management support” (Team, 2022). The implementation of the change plan and
achieving desired results could be made more difficult by this reluctance.
Another threat is the possibility of unforeseen challenges. The change in organizational structure
can be very complex and uncertain. During the journey of change, unforeseen challenges may
arise.
Change Readiness
After reviewing my personal SWOT analysis, it reveals that I’m prepared for
organizational change, but not yet ready. I have strengths and potential opportunities that will
enable me to lead change. However, it is crucial to improve on current weaknesses that could
negatively impact my progress.
Conclusion
In the course scenario, I am confident that I will be able to manage and lead
organizational change. I’ve got the skills and opportunities that will help me get it done,
4
including opportunities for development of leadership skills and new experiences. I’m aware of
my weaknesses and the threats that exist, but I will do everything in my power to overcome them
and mitigate their impact. In the course scenario, I would manage and lead organizational change
through these steps: Determine the organization’s status and identify what changes are needed,
develop an action plan for change, Implement the plan for change, and assess the success of that
change. Effective implementation of these steps will allow the organization to become ready for
change to come.
